2019-2020 Dunn Lecturers

Thanks to the generosity of the Dunn family, the Law School hosted a Fall 2019 speaker series on "Trump and the Constitution." All speakers gave a lunchtime address open to the student body and spoke in at least one law school class. The speaker series looked at a range of substantive issues (impeachment, Congress v. President, States v. Trump, emoluments) and also considered such topics as the Roberts Court and judicial appointments. Speakers included:

  • former White House counsel Don McGahn;
  • former House counsel Stan Brand;
  • Virginia Solicitor General Toby Hytens;
  • UNC law professor Mike Gerhardt (who also served as special assistant to the Senate Judiciary Committee);
  • CNN Supreme Court correspondent Joan Biskupic;
  • Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington Executive Director Noah Bookbinder.

In the Spring 2020 semester, there were two Dunn speakers on the calendar—6th Circuit Judge Jeffrey Sutton, who spoke on Supreme Court advocacy, and civil liberties lawyer Paul Smith. The lecture by Paul Smith was postponed due to scheduling difficulties related to the pandemic.
