Legal Skills Program
“Hi. Thank you for meeting with me; I hope that you can help me. I’ve recently been fired from my job, and I know my employer was just firing me because I’ve been alerting customers to the dangers at his business ... Can you help me?”
– sample story from a Legal Skills client
What’s it like to practice law? Our Legal Skills Program answers that question. We give you opportunities to learn the skills and professional responsibilities of attorneys, using extensive simulated law firms and clients.
We wrote the book on this kind of simulated legal education, by the way. And it’s successful. Employers regularly report that our students exceed their expectations; students often tell us how helpful the Skills program has been to their job experience. Schools from around the country and around the world emulate the unique lawyering skills program created at William & Mary. The founders of the program, now in its 21st year of operation, lecture around the world to other law schools about setting up programs modeled on ours.
