Favorite Day of the Year

first year class
One of my favorite days each year is the welcome reception for our new students.  They came on Sunday, August 16th, and met Dean Douglas, their professors and classmates. Our new students have a broad range of life experiences. They were selected from the largest applicant pool in our history and have the most impressive credentials.  They have earned undergraduate degrees from 126 different colleges and universities and have a wide range of majors.  Most have academic honors; twenty-seven are members of Phi Beta Kappa. Over a quarter have studied abroad and many speak multiple languages. Seven percent have graduate degrees and over forty percent have full-time work experience. Seven members in the class have military experience. They have held campus and community leadership positions and mentored others as coaches, peer advisors, youth pastors and crisis counselors. Many are outstanding athletes.  Some are accomplished musicians. They have built a record of community service as missionaries, C.A.S.A. and E.M. T. volunteers, served in AmeriCorps, recognized as Eagle Scouts and other activities that are foundations for their careers as citizen lawyers.  They are adventurous - one completed a 3,000 mile bike trek on the Continental Divide and another took a 9,000 mile solo trip around the United States! They are an outstanding group of aspiring lawyers continuing the great tradition of outstanding students at William & Mary Law School.
We welcome our new students, but we are already looking ahead to the upcoming admission cycle. We welcome your application!
