William & Mary Reciprocity Policies
The Office of Career Services (OCS) at William & Mary School of Law is available to students and graduates of other ABA-accredited law schools on the following basis:
1. Services are available only to individuals whose schools permit William & Mary students and graduates to use their services and facilities in a substantially similar manner
2. If an individual’s law school imposes “blackout periods” during which it will not grant reciprocity and/or restricts the type of services available, we will impose a comparable blackout period and/or restriction on the individual’s use of our services.
3. Requests must be made at least two weeks in advance by a career services official of the individual’s law school. Telephone requests are not accepted. The request should include the student’s/graduate’s mailing and email addresses. Reciprocity will be granted for one three-month period beginning from the date the request is granted. Individuals must call prior to their visit and check in with an OCS staff member at the time of their visit, and bring a copy of our grant of reciprocity.
4. William & Mary and Virginia’s other ABA-accredited law schools do not permit simultaneous reciprocity. Reciprocity requests must be limited to only one of the accredited law schools for the length of the relevant reciprocity period.
5. Students and graduates from other institutions will not be permitted to participate in on- or off-campus interview programs or to have access to job listings on the OCS Web site. They will, however, be allowed to review print information in OCS pertaining to on-campus employers, non-visiting employers, and job opportunities as well as other resource materials in OCS.
6. We share our graduate job listings via the Intercollegiate Law Alumni Job Bank coordinated by Brigham Young University School of Law. Graduates of other law schools can access William & Mary’s graduate job listings free of charge on that site by obtaining an ID and password from their law school.
7. Limited counseling time is available. To arrange an appointment, the individual must call OCS in advance of his/her visit.
8. Decisions about reciprocity are made on a case-by-case basis and lie within the sole discretion of the OCS Staff.
