President Obama Names Stein to U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council
| March 6, 2013
On December 21, the White House announced President Barack Obama's appointment of Professor Michael Stein to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Professor Stein, a noted expert on disability law and rights, has been a member of the William & Mary Law School faculty since 2000. He is also co-founding executive director of the Harvard Law School Project on Disability.
The council serves as the governing board of the United States Holocaust Museum. As noted in the museum's on-line history, Congress established the Council in 1980 by unanimous vote and its members were given the initial mandate for "creation of a living memorial to the 6 million Jews and millions of other victims who perished during the Holocaust."
