Funding Information

During the summer of 2015, the law school awarded $348,960 to 131 students for public service fellowships. These fellowships are funded by law school endowments, private donations, money allocated by the Dean of the Law School, a grant from the Virginia Law Foundation, and money raised by the Public Service Fund. PSF alone raised $42,000 for summer stipends.

2Ls may submit an early decision application in the fall, and 1Ls and 2Ls may submit a regular decision application in the spring. If you have any questions, please direct them to PSF representative Kelsey Baack (summerfellowshipfunding@gmail.com) or Dean Kaplan (rekapl@wm.edu).

Students can access the funding application under the Public Service/Pro Bono tab on MyLaw.

Note: eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, legal aid offices, public defenders, prosecutors, U.S. Attorneys, government agencies, courts, and judges.  Organizations outside the U.S. qualify if they are legal aid offices, prosecutors, public defenders, government agencies, courts, judges, or nonprofit organizations that would qualify for 501(c)(3) status if they were U.S. organizations.  Nonprofit organizations with IRS status other than 501(c)(3) are not eligible. Partisan political organizations, partisan political activities, and lobbying are ineligible for funding.
