Jie Zhang is a partner with Reed Smith LLP. His work focuses on international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, cross border investments, structured finance and other international transactions, primarily involving the People's Republic of China. Shortly after graduating from William and Mary Law in 1999, he began work in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. In 2001 he transferred to the firm's Hong Kong location, where he has practiced since as a registered foreign lawyer. Recent notable projects include assisting a U.S. based international transportation company in the development of light rail projects in China, aiding an international consortium with telecommunications equipment and services projects, and facilitating trade control and anti-bribery compliance programs for the Asian subsidiaries of U.S. based multinational entities.
Mr. Zhang has received many honors over the course of his career. Most recently, he was named as one of the leading Corporate/Mergers and Acquisitions lawyers in Hong Kong and China by Chambers Global. Mr. Zhang is a native of Jiangsu Province, China. He holds two Bachelor's degrees from Beijing University, one in International Cultural Studies and one in English Language and Literature. Before beginning law school he worked as a journalist in Beijing.
