September 16, 2020 - The Challenge of Financing Resiliency

Building on funding and financing topics covered at recent VCPC events, such as the 2019 conference and May 2019 forum, VCPC partnered with The Riley Center for Livable Communities to host a discussion on strategies and tools local governments can use to finance resilience projects. Featured speakers included representatives of the insurance and banking industries, local government and the private sector. A recording of the webinar is available here.

October 21, 2020 - Resilience in Virginia: Outlook 2021

VCPC's October webinar included an update on Virginia’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and the implementation of Executive Order 24; remarks from the Speaker of the House of Delegates, Eileen Filler -Corn, and a legislative panel discussed resilience issues for the upcoming 2021 Virginia General Assembly session. VCPC was honored to host Governor Ralph Northam for Closing Remarks. A recording of the webinar is available here.

November 18, 2020 - Liability in the Face of a Changing Climate

VCPC partnered with the Environmental Law Section of the Virginia State Bar to host a panel discussion to explore potential liability issues associated with state government, local government, and private sector actions to adapt to climate change. Panelists included Bill Franczek (Vandeventer Black LLP), Trip Pollard (Southern Environmental Law Center), Kay Wilson (City of Virginia Beach), and David Paylor (Virginia Department of Environmental Quality).
