Preparing for Azerbaijan!
Well, the school year is almost over, and in just a few weeks I'll be on my way to Azerbaijan! Certainly I'm excited, and I think the internship itself should be fascinating. I'm a little worried about how much I'll like living in Baku. I've been there before as a tourist, and honestly, I found Azerbaijan to be a bit of a challenge. Baku is a large, noisy, hectic city. I also found that being a woman travelling alone caused me a number of problems. Azeris are Muslims, and, while not nearly as religious or traditional as some of their neighboring countries, definitely had notions about a woman's "place" that conflict with my own beliefs. But it will be a good learning experience for me to better understand their culture and to learn to adapt!
