Table Mountain
After settling in at CSVR, with a long-term project to keep me busy during the week, I’ve had a chance to be a tourist the last two weeks! My sister was in Cape Town and a cable car ride up Table Mountain was first on both our lists. The alternative would be a three hour hike, which I’m leaving for another day. But we did end up “hiking” across Table Mountain once we reached the top. It was a short forty minute hike, during which we ran into a dassie, Table Mountain’s unofficial mascot. The view was absolutely beautiful—the photos really don’t do it justice. According to the brochure that came with my ticket, the top was flattened by ice sheets during an ice age 300 million years ago. It is one of the oldest mountains in the world; six times older than the Himalayas! After our hike, we decided to stop by Table Mountain's very own cafe, where we treated ourselves to grilled ostrich! And it was delicious. My former vegetarian self would be so disappointed.
