Off and Away!

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head.  If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.” –Nelson Mandela

Within less than a week, I finished my submission for the joint journal competition, moved out of my apartment in Williamsburg, drove home, and threw clothes from one suitcase into another to begin my journey to South Africa.

Now, that I have a moment to catch my breath, the reality that I will be working in Cape Town is starting to set in.  While guidebooks provide some insight into the city, I am excited to explore and take in all of what Cape Town has to offer.

Moreover, I am looking forward to working with People Against Suffering, Oppression and Poverty (PASSOP), a non-profit organization devoted to protecting the rights of all refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants in South Africa.

During my time with PASSOP, I hope to be able to speak to the heart of South Africa.
