Sarah Deuitch

Sarah Deuitch is from an Air Force family, so she moved eight times before 18 — and consequently developed a passion for international travel and affairs. She went to UC Berkeley and graduated magna cum laude with a Classical Civilizations degree. After graduation, she wanted to explore public service in a domestic capacity, so she joined the Teach For America Corps of 2011. Sarah moved to New York City and taught high school history to students with special needs in the North Bronx for two years before moving to Williamsburg to attend William & Mary Law School. Sarah wants to pursue a legal career in International Law, ideally through the Air Force JAG program after graduation.

This summer, Sarah is working at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Netherlands. As a United Nations tribunal, it is a minimum three month commitment. Sarah will be working in the Appeals Chamber on Prosecutor v. Popovic, the largest appeal in international criminal history. On a team of interns, she will be conducting legal research, writing legal briefs, and building up the Prosecutor’s case against an alleged war criminal who directed or participated in the Srebrenica Massacre of July 1995 which resulted in the deaths of over 8,000 Bosnian men and boys.
