Elizabeth Buner

About

Liz graduated from Smith College in 2005 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. After graduation, she spent a number of years working in Boston and New York, most recently as a paralegal for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York in their Terrorism and International Narcotics Unit. Last summer, Liz interned with Open Development Cambodia (ODC), a non-profit organization in Phnom Penh, Cambodia dedicated to information transparency, with a focus on economic and environmental development in Cambodia.

This summer Liz will be working with People Against Suffering, Oppression, and Poverty (PASSOP), a non-profit organization in Cape Town, South Africa that works with asylum-seekers, refugees, and immigrants to South Africa. The organization strives to combat injustice and discrimination in South Africa, and pursues South African human rights and community empowerment through a combination of education, legal services, activism and community participation. Liz is excited to spend her summer at PASSOP, working with clients and learning from the dedicated group of individuals who staff this organization, and looks forward to exploring South Africa in her down time.
