Michelle Weinbaum

Michelle Weinbaum is originally from Cranston, Rhode Island. She received her B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point in May, 2006 as a Philosophy major, and served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army. She trained Police Officers in Tal’ Afar, Iraq, and helped administer a national Biometrics program in Kabul, Afghanistan. She received her M.S. in Community Development from Kansas State University in May, 2012. Prior to law school, she also worked as a teacher, and spent two years with the Parks and Recreation Department in the city of Jacksonville, FL.

This summer, Michelle will spend her time working for International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) at their Geneva, Switzerland headquarters. IBJ is a non-governmental organization with the mission of ending the use of torture as an investigative tool within our lifetimes. IBJ’s work includes providing legal aid to indigent defendants; providing legal rights education to police, prosecutors, judges, and citizens; and maintaining a presence in supported countries (such as Cambodia, China, India, Rwanda, etc.) through the use of local Fellows. Michelle will spend time studying data on the use of torture in those countries; managing data on the investigative training police officers in those countries receive; and assisting with training programs for attorneys.
