Nicole Alanko

About

Nicole grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and Staunton, Virginia. Growing up in Atlanta, she was able to meet people from all over the world from a very young age. Following this passion, she graduated from the George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2015 with a major in International Affairs and a minor in Spanish. During her freshman year, Malala Yousafzai was shot while advocating for girls’ education in Pakistan. This profoundly impacted Nicole’s undergraduate career, as she fundraised for and researched girls’ education across the world. This culminated in her senior thesis, which focused on how best to provide education to Syrian urban refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. She came to law school to be a voice for women around the world, whether it is in education, immigration, or the prosecution of traffickers.

This summer, Nicole will have an opportunity to work with the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN). GAIN provides pro-bono services to immigrant victims of human trafficking, immigrant victims of domestic violence, asylum seekers, and victims of other crimes.
