About

James Zaleski is originally from Midlothian, Virginia. He completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech in 2014 where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a second major in International Studies. During his junior year, James studied abroad in Quito, Ecuador, where he completed coursework in international development. Following graduation, James taught Spanish in rural South Carolina as an AmeriCorps member with Teach for America.

This summer, James will be interning with Open Development Cambodia (“ODC”) in Phnom Penh to support development through open data. ODC collects and aggregates environmental, social, and economic development data with the goal of facilitating research and communication between the public, private companies, civil society, and governments. By applying international standards to local challenges, ODC’s open source approach to consolidating information provides an excellent opportunity to cultivate a culture of transparency. James’s research will primarily consist of projects relating to Cambodian copyright law and international law.
