Post

So this is it. The final week has arrived.

The vast majority of the week was dedicated to closing projects and tying loose ends. I completed final drafts of projects, made sure my desk was clean and completed our internship evaluation. Tim and I had a talk about what work I could take with me when I go and what I had to do to properly “sanitize” my documents.

On Wednesday, Emma and I gave our presentation on the legal and political implications of human migration. I won’t bore you with the details but I will tell you this: Tim decided to serve lunch (free lunch) during our presentation to incentivize people to come. We had a great (read: terrifying) turnout. Standing room only, you know?

It went well. Well, as well as it could go when you have an overwhelming fear of public speaking. We were asked a lot of questions and the presentation turned into more of a discussion, which was nice. There’s way less pressure to perform when you’re having a conversation with someone.

On Friday, Tim took Emma and me to lunch. As I mentioned before, we wrote a concept paper for a hypothetical program in Serbia. To celebrate our accomplishment, he took us to a nearby restaurant, Ambar. Ambar specializes in true Balkan cuisine, so we got a chance to have a little taste of Serbia (and neighboring regions). We tried a little bit of everything and it was amazing.

We also got the opportunity to go to the Nationals game with the office. It was so kind of them to do this for us on our last day.

I’m going to miss Tim. He has truly been a great mentor. He would go over our projects with us, iteration after iteration, just to make sure we were understanding each step and learning as we went. He met with us every week to make sure we were on track and he spent hours of his time helping us learn.  We would make jokes and laugh and he would tease us but we always knew we could turn to him with questions.

I’m going to miss everyone from the office. They all bring something special to the atmosphere and I wish I had more time to get to know them. Payton, Isatta, Violaine, Marta, JoAnne, Julian, Tim, Judge Mize, Jeff, everyone. I’ll miss them all.

I am sad that the job is over. I’ve truly enjoyed working here for the past ten weeks. However, I am very excited to move back to my own house so my fiancé and I can get back to planning our wedding. I will miss the city though. I’ll miss the bustle of people and the feeling of the train beneath my feet and the proximity to new things to try. I’ll miss feeling like anything can happen.

Though, anything can happen anywhere, right?
