About

The third of seven children, Alicen spent her childhood moving all over the United States, ultimately claiming Wisconsin as home. She entered the workforce as a young teen, and at twenty-four, finally began pursuing her college education. While working full-time in retail management, she earned her Associate of Arts with Honors from Fayetteville Technical Community College, and then graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies and Human Resources from Southern New Hampshire University. Throughout her eighteen years in the workforce, Alicen spent the bulk of her time working and volunteering with children as a teacher, tutor, caregiver, and coach, and with the elderly as an activity assistant in a nursing home.

Alicen is Co-Chair for the Public Service Fund at William & Mary Law School, holds a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certificate, and is currently training to be a certified yoga instructor. She enjoys spending her free time with friends and family, reading, camping, playing games, working out, and traveling. She is passionate about domestic violence and human trafficking awareness, child advocacy, and creating sustainable jobs for women around the world. Alicen has been married to her husband, Luke, for ten years, and lives in Williamsburg with their three dogs: Jack, Ryder, and Bo.

Alicen will spend the summer in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She will be working with Winrock International on their Trafficking-In-Persons Program addressing the issues of human trafficking and child marriage. The program works to reduce the prevalence of human trafficking and child marriage in Bangladesh by strengthening awareness, improving victims' access to assistance, and partnering with community leaders to increase responsiveness.
