Weeks 8 & 9
Because of my inability to post about my substantive work and the short workweek due to July 4th, I have combined two weeks into one post. However, I will note that my assignments on employment law and appropriations law continue to be meaningful and I am learning a lot. As I have mentioned many times before, I could not have asked for a better internship or better mentors. After spending last summer in Indonesia, this has served as a wonderful transition into more traditional legal practice with an international focus.
The GC’s Office also continues to organize events for the interns, which has been great. On Friday we toured the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which is conveniently two blocks away from the Ronald Reagan Building where the USAID offices are located. The Museum is one of the more interesting Museums I have toured. The layout of the museum starts on the bottom floor and travels through the decades as you make your way to the fourth floor. The bottom floor includes the history of the slave trade, which is a somber reminder of that section of the Country’s history.
We also had the chance to tour the Supreme Court. Although I have been there a few times now, its always a great experience. Our tour guide focused on the history of the building itself and the Justices’ personal lives.
Finally, I forgot to mention in my last post that I also attended the Congressional Baseball game, which is just a really cool event. As a sports fan and a self-proclaimed politics nerd, it was a lot of fun. For those of you who know Nationals baseball, you are probably well aware of the Presidential race. In the spirit of bipartisanship, the Presidents tied this race.
