About

Melanie Dostis grew up in Queens, NY. She graduated from Northeastern University in 2014 with a degree in Journalism and a minor in International Relations. Melanie has written for several major publications including the New York Daily News, the Boston Globe, and the Orlando Sentinel. As a journalist, she covered multiple crime scenes, court hearings, trials, and everything in between. Fueled by her growing interest in the criminal justice system, she worked in the Communications Office at the Bronx District Attorney's Office before starting Law School at William & Mary.

At William & Mary, Melanie is a member of the Moot Court team and serves on the board of the Latinx Law Student Association. This summer, she will be working with the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN), exploring her interests in criminal and international law. Based in Atlanta, the organization provides free legal representation to asylum seekers and immigrant victims of crimes and persecution, including human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Melanie is grateful for the opportunity to spend a summer gaining the skills to become a citizen lawyer.
