Week 9

This week I was given my last and final assignment that will carry me until the end of my internship. I was given a series of questions related to a client that we have from Ghana who has been denied refugee status and we are considering doing an appeal. My assistance with the questions will jumpstart the assessment of the merits of her claim. The questions are as follows:

1. What is the prevalence of forced marriage (not child marriage) in Ghana, especially in Northern Ghana/areas in Ghana with predominantly Muslim populations?
2. What measures have been put in place to protect girls/women from forced marriages?
3. Have these measures been successful/effective? Give reasons for saying yes or no.
4. Can one qualify for refugee status on the basis that they are being forced to get married? If so, what requirement shave to be met to qualify as a refugee?

 I am tasked with no only answering these questions but supporting them with updated sources.
