Week 6 at the ACC
A major highlight of this week was attending an event at the Environmental Law Institute on Tuesday titled “Moving Beyond Plastics: The Environmental Justice Impacts of Plastic Pollution.” Environmental justice and plastic pollution are among the advocacy topics that I am most passionate about, so I was very excited to listen to what legal professionals in relevant jobs had to say. A major takeaway from the event was a newfound understanding that lawyers are hired at a myriad of interesting jobs that exist outside of the law firm world. For example, one panelist was an attorney who worked for an aquarium and spent most of her workdays conducting research on environmental law issues. This week has given me the opportunity to familiarize myself with the metro and work on building the necessary confidence to make the most of DC’s public transit system. As I have been commuting into the city from Fairfax each morning, I have not spent much time traveling around DC proper. However, with the Environmental Law Institute event and making dinner for a friend near American University another night, I have now utilized the DC metro and buses for the first time in years and am excited to keep doing so this summer.
