Week Eight
This was a busy week for everyone in the DC area given the NATO Summit occurring downtown. Through NCSC, I was given the opportunity to attend a NATO lecture on Tuesday morning. At 7:45 am on Tuesday, myself and another William & Mary Law student enjoyed breakfast at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace while awaiting the NATO Panel set to begin at 9 am. This talk was titled "Is NATO a good deal?: Making the Case for the Alliance to the Public" and featured Tobias Billström (foreign minister of Sweden), Senator John Hickenlooper, and Janet Napolitano (former secretary of homeland security). I found the discussion, moderated by Jim Scuitto from CNN, to be an enthralling intersection of topics in domestic and international politics.
On Thursday, I visited my friend in Adams Morgan and we took her dog for a walk through Malcolm X Park. This was my first time visiting Malcolm X Park and I was incredibly impressed with how spacious and well designed it was. Over the weekend, I had two friends from Richmond visit. Besides visiting the zoo on Saturday, I spent the weekend showing them my favorite restaurants in DC that boast a variety of international cuisines. With temperatures staying in the 80s until noon, this was one of the most pleasant Saturdays I have seen in DC this summer. We took advantage of the nice weather to see the zoo, and we found ourselves incredibly grateful for the indoor animal houses as the heat reached 90 degrees by 12:30. Highlights of our visit included the giant salamander in the reptile house and the seals.
