Week Seven
With July 4th being on a Thursday this year, this week we were only in the office for three days. On Monday, I attended a 2.5 hour meeting with our Moldova team to work out the details of the curriculum cite checking task that has been assigned to me. After this in depth discussion, I am feeling much more confident in what I need to accomplish for the team. On Tuesday our boss took the interns out to lunch at a nice American restaurant next to the Court House station. We do not often get to spent time out of the office with each other and with our boss, so it was a lovely way to break up the short week. Further, Tuesday had lovely 80 degree weather, and it was a treat to get to spend some time outside on a day where the temperature was below 95. Friday I worked remotely from my parents' house in Virginia Beach, VA, and spent the day digging into copyright law as I will need to draft a memo on fair use standards for educational materials next week.
After work on Wednesday I braved I-95 traffic drove down to Virginia Beach for the weekend. I spent the 4th of July celebrating with friends new and old at the beach. On Saturday I took a day trip to Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore of Virginia to visit Kiptopeke state park and view the "ghost fleet" of concrete ships that were abandoned after WWII. It was too hot to kayak up to the ships, but I still had a clear view of them while swimming by the shore. After a great weekend of seeing family, friends, and meeting my parents' new dog, I dealt with five hours of traffic before getting back to DC on Sunday, and this traffic was well worth the trip.
