Back in the District!
This summer, I am interning with the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Global Affairs division. ACC is a trade association that represents more than 190 companies engaged in the business of chemistry. ACC's role is to advocate for science-based policies at all levels of government and foster sustainability. I am incredibly excited for this internship because I am interested in regulatory and compliance law, and federal agencies such as the EPA and OSHA govern much of the chemical innovation space. As a summer intern, I will conduct legal research for countless legal issues and assist with advocacy.
After completing finals, I packed up my car and drove to Fairfax, Virginia to check in to my summer AirBnB. The neighborhood is very safe and my hosts are incredibly kind; I couldn't have chosen a better spot for the summer. I lived in the DC area for 4 years before matriculating to law school, so the first question I asked was, "Where's the closest metro stop?" Fortunately, the orange line is only a 15-minute walk away and accessible via a woodland nature trail. Classic Virginia.
Quick sidebar: I thought it would be wise to drive to ACC on my first day of work. I was wrong. I gave myself plenty of time and still arrived early, but I will never drive in morning DC traffic ever again. On subsequent days, I metro'd (i.e. took the subway), and am thankful that my AirBnb and ACC are both near metro stops. My commute is quick, relaxed, and easy.
Despite only being there a few days, I hit the ground running at ACC. I sat in on a meeting with member companies, met several team members, knocked out a research project, attended their annual ice cream social, and am about to dive into another huge research project regarding industry terminology.
It's been an exciting few days in DC! I'm looking sincerely looking forward to sharing more about my summer as it progresses.
