Edward L. Flippen M.B.A. '67, J.D. '74 Appointed to W&M's Board of Visitors
L. Clifford Schroeder, Sr. HON '08, Edward L. Flippen M.B.A. '67, J.D. '74, and Laura L. Flippin '92 have been appointed to William & Mary's Board of Visitors, Gov. Robert F. McDonnell announced July 1.

Edward L. Flippen
Before receiving his master's and law degrees from William & Mary, Flippen earned his undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Now a partner with McGuireWoods LLP, he has been practicing law for more than 30 years. From 1975-1980, he served in the Office of the General Counsel of the Virginia State Corporation Commission, ultimately being promoted to deputy counsel. Flippen next served as assistant general counsel for Duke Power Company from 1980-1981. He joined the Energy and Environment Group at Mays and Valentine as an associate in 1981 and became a partner in 1983. Thirteen years later, he joined McGuireWoods.
Flippen previously served as a member of the Board of Visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University, serving as rector from 2000 to 2002. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals Authority and as the chair of Governor Gilmore's Blue Ribbon Commission on Higher Education. Flippen lectured on trade regulation at William & Mary's graduate school of business administration from 1978 to 1988. He also served at the Law School as an adjunct professor of law in economic regulation from 1996 to 1998 and as an adjunct professor of law in applied business and law in 2002. In 2009, he again taught at William & Mary, this time as a professor of public policy.
