James (Jim) E. Sowell

In addition, Mr. Sowell was the majority stockholder in American General Hospitality, Inc., which was the largest operator of Hilton Hotels in the world. He has served on the Board of Directors of several New York Stock Exchange companies, including NL Industries, Todd Shipyards Corporation, Lomas and Nettleton Mortgage Investors, and Ketchum Drug Company. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of Regents for Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Medical School, and is a Past President of the Boy Scouts of America-Circle Ten Council. He was formerly a member of the Board of Directors for the Governor's Business Council, the Dallas Citizens Council, Central Dallas Ministries (inner-city welfare agency), Dallas Museum of Art, and Baylor Hospital. In 2010, he was inducted into the North Texas Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame.
Mr. Sowell was born in Bryan, Texas. He graduated from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas in 1966, and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1970 with a BBA in Finance. He served in the U.S. Army in 1970 and 1971. He has been married to the former Elizabeth Faye Bilheimer since 1973 and has four children: Zachary Sowell (age 40), Nicholas Sowell (age 37), Amy Sowell (age 28), and Laine Sowell (age 26).
