Supporting Survivors: Students From Across Campus Join in February 25 Fundraiser for Avalon

Be The SparkUndergraduate, graduate, and law students are performing in this year’s production of “A Memory, a Monologue, a Rant, and a Prayer."  William and Mary Law Revue Theatre Group is putting on the performance, which is a series of monologues raising awareness about violence against women. Proceeds from the performance benefit Avalon, the domestic violence shelter in Williamsburg. Groups from across campus, including the Student Bar Association, Grad Council, Doctors’ Commons Legal History Society, Women’s Law Society, and Health Outreach Peer Educators, are cosponsoring the event.

The monologues touch on several different subjects, ranging from violence in war to a first kiss. “We are offering this question: ‘What violence does it take to make people stand up?’” said Natalie Rankin J.D. '18, the director of the show. “We propose that violence on any level is something we should combat on a daily basis.”

“We’re so excited to have such a wide audience for MMRP this year,” said Nicole Alanko J.D. '18, the MMRP Committee Chair. “We’re looking forward to an amazing show that brings lots of different perspectives to the table about gender-based violence.”

The performance will be held on February 25th at 7:30 pm in the Sadler Center’s Commonwealth Auditorium. Tickets are $5.00 presale and $7.00 at the door (plus processing fees). Donations of any amount are also accepted on the ticket sales page.
