Doris Taylor has joined William & Mary Law School in the new position of Chief Communications and Marketing Officer. She began her duties on June 12.

Taylor recently served as Interim Director of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations at Virginia Peninsula Community College. As a member of William & Mary Law School’s Executive Leadership Team, she will have primary responsibility for developing and executing complex, strategic communication plans and initiatives to support the engagement and professional needs of the Law School.

A. Benjamin Spencer, Dean and Trustee Professor, said that a whole-institution approach to communications and marketing is vital for the Law School’s strategic plan. “Doris’s expertise in brand management, content creation, and marketing will be crucial to ensuring that our story is reaching intended audiences and fosters a lifetime community of learning and belonging,” Spencer said.

Taylor said she is looking forward to playing a pivotal role at “one of the nation’s most esteemed institutions.”

“I am genuinely excited to work alongside an exceptional team of legal scholars, educators, and professionals who have dedicated their lives to promoting excellence in legal education,” Taylor said. “Together, we will chart new paths, drive innovation, and ensure that the excellence of William & Mary Law School continues to shine brightly.”

Over the past two decades, Taylor has worked in several roles in the media, including print news, radio, local broadcast news, public relations, digital production, and marketing and communications for higher education. Prior to joining Virginia Peninsula Community College, she served as marketing manager for Thomas Nelson Community College, and before that as social media manager for Norfolk State University.

For several years, Taylor ran her own digital media company and worked with small companies, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations, law firms, and government officials. She graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and recently completed a Master of Arts in Public Relations from Norfolk State University.
