Class of 2027 Recognizes Visiting Professor Bryan Lammon as Outstanding Teacher

The award recognizes a faculty member’s outstanding work with first-year students both inside and outside of the classroom.

Lammon is a distinguished appellate attorney renowned for his knowledge of appellate jurisdiction. With an impressive track record spanning more than two decades, he has established himself as a leading authority on appeals.

Lammon graduated first in his class from Washington University School of Law. After graduating, he clerked for Judge Edward C. Prado on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, after which he joined the appellate practice at a global law firm.

He then joined academia, where he taught civil procedure and other litigation-focused classes for more than a decade. During that time, he published more than a dozen articles and essays on federal appellate jurisdiction. He also started a blog in which he wrote about decisions and developments involving federal appeals. In 2025, he left full-time teaching to found Final Decisions PLLC, a federal appellate boutique and consultancy that focuses on appellate jurisdiction.

Lammon’s work has been widely cited by courts, litigators, and commentators, including several citations in the appellate-jurisdiction and procedure volumes of Federal Practice & Procedure. He has received numerous awards for his research and teaching, of which the 1L Teacher of the Year Award is the latest.
