Devoted donors propel William & Mary Law School to third-largest fundraising year
The William & Mary Law School community continued to signal their trust in the school and their commitment to helping future citizen lawyers succeed with record levels of giving during the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
The $6,219,768 raised by 2,667 donors last year allows the Law School to maintain a high standard of academic excellence through support for its expert faculty and innovative clinics and centers, while alleviating the financial burden on students through substantial financial aid packages.
“William & Mary Law School could not do the work it does without significant investment from our alumni and friends,” said A. Benjamin Spencer, dean and trustee professor. “Our community is clearly dedicated to ensuring we enroll the best students, recruit and retain the best professors and offer the best educational experiences that will prepare our students to be leaders and experts in the legal field.”
Thanks to donor support, the Law School enjoyed many incredible achievements during the fiscal year, some of which include:
- $3,871,438 in scholarship funds distributed to students
- $83,000 given to 76 students engaged in public service internships to help defray living costs
- $90,000 disbursed to alumni to assist with student loan repayments
- The foundation of the Center for Energy Law & Policy and the inaugural Future of Energy Conference, which position the Law School as an essential hub for conversations about the energy industry
- The endowment of a new $1,000,000 scholarship in honor of Charles ’74 and Anita ’74 Poston and President Emeritus Taylor and former First Lady Helen Reveley
A strong fundraising year opens up even more opportunities for Law School students. Donor support provides more competitive financial aid packages to top students and enhanced faculty resources, establishes new programming that prepares students to face pressing legal challenges and ensures students have access to the most up-to-date tools and best possible environment for learning.
The Law School is immensely grateful to every person who recognizes the value of a William & Mary legal education and supports the Law School’s mission by making a financial contribution. As our students prepare to make a lasting impact on the legal profession and on society, they benefit immeasurably from the backing of those who were once in their position and who share their passion for the law.
