Kennedy Brown ’28 Returns to Education and the Pursuit of Impact

The journey to law school looked a little different for Kennedy Brown than it does for many students. A few years ago, he wasn’t sure whether continuing his education was the right choice. When the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, he stepped away from the idea of school and began working—first on a construction site and later in restaurants.Kennedy Brown '28

The work was demanding, and the hours were long, but it was also eye-opening. Working alongside men and women who showed extraordinary dedication and resourcefulness, Kennedy learned lessons that no classroom could teach: the value of humility, the strength of community, and the dignity inherent in hard work. Those experiences gave him a new perspective on life and a deeper appreciation for the opportunity he had taken for granted—continuing his education.

Over time, these experiences shaped Kennedy’s decision to return to school. What began as uncertainty evolved into motivation and purpose. He realized that education could be a tool for personal growth and for making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Returning to the classroom was no longer a mere obligation—it was a choice driven by optimism, gratitude, and a recognition of the opportunities before him.

Today, as a J.D. candidate at William & Mary Law School, Kennedy approaches his studies with energy and intention. He is inspired by the chance to learn, to share his ideas, and to apply his education in ways that contribute to positive change. For Kennedy, pursuing a law degree is about embracing opportunity, understanding responsibility, and using his voice to create meaningful impact in the world around him.

Kennedy’s journey to law school may have been unconventional, but it is a testament to perseverance, reflection, and purpose. His story serves as a reminder that the path to success is not always linear, and that the experiences we gain along the way can shape not only our future, but the way we approach it with intention and gratitude.
