54th Annual William B. Spong, Jr. Tournament

Welcome to the William B. Spong, Jr. Moot Court Tournament webpage. This year's tournament will be held February 14-15, 2025, at William & Mary Law School.

Registration

Registration is closed. For teams with confirmed registration: The registration fee is $750 for one team, and $1400 for two teams. Payment is due by December 1, 2024.

Teams must submit registration payment via PayPal (username: wmmootcourt, link: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/wmmootcourt) or check by December 1.

If we have not received payment by that date, the team will be removed from the competition list and replaced by a team on the waitlist. If you are using PayPal, please include the name of your school in the payment subject line.

Checks must be made out to the William & Mary Law School Moot Court Board. Checks may be shipped to the following address:

Problem and Rules

The problem and rules can be found below for registered teams. Please note one important rule change specific to this year's edition of the Spong Tournament.

Limitation on Research: Competitors may not access any briefs filed in the United States Supreme Court. The problem is frozen in time and competitors may not access or use any cases, filings, opinions, statutes, or other materials dated after September 30, 2024.

The brief is due January 20, 2025 by 11:59pm. All submissions should be made to spong@wm.edu . For further details on the submission please see the rules.

Please contact the team with any questions you may have. Clarification questions on the problem will be posted here and sent out to competitors as the writing period progresses. The deadline for clarifications is January 13, 2025 at 11:59pm.
