Future of Energy Conference | May 20th & 21st 2026

As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of American independence, William & Mary Law School invites energy leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to gather in Williamsburg for the inaugural Future of Energy Conference, a timely conversation on the forces shaping the next era of energy policy, markets, and infrastructure.
Designed for those who work, live, or practice in the energy sector, particularly across the Mid-Atlantic region, this two-day conference will bring together leading voices from government, industry, and academia to explore the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing the energy landscape today.
About the Conference
The general program will be held at Hunter Hall in the Alumni House (500 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, Virginia) and spans two days of in-depth discussion and networking. Registration includes access to the full conference agenda, two breakfasts, lunch, and a reception.
The conference will open with a keynote panel on the future of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), featuring four former FERC chairs: Neil Chatterjee, Willie Phillips, Rich Glick, and Joe Kelliher. This opening session will set the stage for a series of forward-looking conversations on the evolving energy landscape.
Additional panels will examine:
- Data center development in Virginia and PJM
- Resource adequacy and energy markets in PJM
- Governance of PJM
- Reliability and affordability of power in Virginia
Featured Speakers
The conference brings together an exceptional lineup of leaders and experts from across the energy sector, including representatives from PJM, Dominion Energy, American Electric Power, Southern Gas, the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the Southern Environmental Law Center, Google, LS Power, and more.
CLE Program
For practicing attorneys, the conference offers an optional Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program providing 7.5 hours of Virginia CLE credit, including ethics.
The CLE program will take place at William & Mary Law School on Day 2, immediately following the general program. Participants may register for the CLE add-on separately.
