Citizen Lawyers in Action

November 11, 2024

Purpose

George Wythe, America’s first law professor, envisioned a legal education that, in addition to providing necessary vocational skills, trained young lawyers so they could be the leaders the new Republic desperately needed. In the spirit of this intention, and in recognition of the challenges and division of the modern political process, the Institute of Bill of Rights Law and the Virginia Law Foundation have created “Citizen Lawyers in Action."  In the Fall of 2024, IBRL and Virginia Law Foundation additionally created a Citizen Lawyer in Action Award" to honor an individual who embodies a "Citizen Lawyer."

Event Description

The event began with a lecture at 12:50 PM in Room 119 of the Law School, where the award recipient the Honorable Liz Cheney participated in a fireside chat with Professor Allison Orr Larsen. They engaged in the Q&A with questions from students about her life and what it means to be a "Citizen Lawyer." Before the event the Honorable Liz Cheney attended the Veterans Day ceremony and after she met with a group of Student leaders.
