Winning the lottery!

Winning the lottery!

Coming to the third week in Beijing, I had to boast that I’ve been very lucky, because ever since I came to Beijing this summer, Beijing’s air has been good. Most of the days there is only slight smog.  This week we even had three days of perfect clean air, which aroused the excitement of the whole city. My appreciation for the weather was not offset at all by the fact that I live in Williamsburg for the most of the year. I felt as lucky and excited as I had won a lottery!

Air pollution is like a conundrum haunting many Chinese cities in recent years. Beijing is not the most severely affected city, though as the capital it is the one receiving the most limelight. Usually the smog can be especially heavy and last long in winter. I remember last January it took my throat and lungs four weeks to get used to the smog in my hometown.  I told friends that we have been taking pains so much to bring about equality that finally we have equal polluted air to all. I was joking, but it was not fun. Each time when smog weather appears, it reminds me of London and Los Angeles, which used to suffer air pollution as well.  That now these two cities have very good air gives me hope that good air will come back to Beijing and my hometown.
