Getting Ready!

Glad you decided to check out my summer blog! For the next two and half months I'll be blogging from Arusha , Tanzania while I work for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UNICTR).
Now that my 1L year at W&M has ended I finished up my packing and cleaning of my apartment in Williamsburg and I arrived at my parent's house in New Jersey after a long drive up from Virginia. On my way up to NJ, I stopped to meet my cousin in Washington DC for some brunch (the place was so good) and also to check out the new apartment he just bought. His place is very nice and has some amazing views of DC.
Now that finals and write on are over, it's finally hitting me that I will be spending two and half months in Africa and I'm definitely starting to get excited. While I'm in NJ for the week leading up to my flight I'm trying to get things in order for my trip to Africa. I just received my Visa in the mail from the Tanzania Embassy and I'm beginning to take my malaria pills tomorrow. I leave for Africa a week from today and I'm flying out of JFK Airport in Queens, NY. I will then arrive in Frankfurt, Germany the next morning. Unfortunately, I got stuck in a middle seat for my flight to Frankfurt, but hopefully the flight won't be too long. After a brief layover, in Germany (I'd hoped to walk around Frankfurt, but realized there won't be enough time for that) I'm heading to Ethiopia to visit my, Grandparents and other relatives for three days then taking a flight from Ethiopia to Arusha. I begin work at UNICTR June 1 (more details to come in later posts).
I also just picked up a digital camera so I'm expecting to take a lot of photos this summer. Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to visit Rwanda, Zanzibar, Nairobi and possibly even go on a few safaris. And if I'm really lucky I'll get to climb Mt Kilimanjaro (the tallest mountain in Africa), which is only a few hrs away from Arusha. I'm also really looking forward to meeting the other interns at UNICTR who will be coming from all parts of the world.
In my next posting, I hope to have some photos from my trip to Ethiopia and some photos from Arusha. Until next time!
