week 2
It has been another excellent week in Pristina! Since my law blog post last week I have been busy with work and exploring the city. Work this week has been interesting. I have spent most of my time working on research necessary to plan an audit of the voters' list used in the municipality of Obiliq, which is just north of Pristina. D4D conducted a similar procedure in 2012 in the municipality of Kacanik. My research has focused on what differences between these two municipalities may affect the audit procedure as well as how the new data protection law may affect access to information.
In addition to work, I have spent a lot of time exploring Pristina this week. Tuesday was Eid Al-Fitr, so the office was closed. I spent the time walking around the city and exploring. I saw the famous Newborn statue as well as the Bill Clinton statute. I also saw a very interesting monument that was built during the 1960s when the region was part of Yugoslavia. I would post a picture, however I could not get a photo that did not have profane graffiti in English. I am planning to visit another Yugoslavian monument I have heard about in Mitrovica, hopefully I will be able to get a suitable photo of that one.
This weekend I will be leaving Pristina to visit Albania. I met some Americans traveling through the region earlier in the week, and they have asked me to meet them in Tirana this evening. We are planning to see Tirana and possible visit Durres as well over the weekend. Should be very exciting and I will certainly update in my next post.
