Geneva

This week I began writing the paper that will summarize my research on the Presidementry system. After so many weeks of intensive research, it was satisfying to finally synthesize the research into a tangible document. It almost felt as if the paper was writing itself; there have been so many strands of thought and research that have gone into the preparation of the paper. The focus on the paper is a non-perspective analysis of the Presidementry system. There is not enough data to determine if this system is the right or the wrong choice - all that we can say conclusively is that the system exists. It is a new, organic development in the available systems of constitutional government. While the concentrated executive power of this system has been abused in some iterations, others have been used constructively to help the nation develop. This paper seeks to introduce the system to the wider constitution building community as it has not yet been recognized or extensively studied.

To celebrate The US holiday of the Fourth of July, I went down to Geneva to visit my fellow summer travelers Tessa and Jamie, and we had a great time swimming the Rhône river and celebrating the 4th as Expats. Geneva is a truly beautiful city both in architectural choices (I was fascinated by the jet d’eau) and in natural wonder (I spent part of a day hiking Mt. Saleve and taking in the views). I spent the rest of my time in Geneva exploring the parks, a museum of Swiss watches, and trying Swiss dishes such as Raclette (a traditional dish of melted cheese and potatoes). Seeing Tessa and Jamie reminded me of how quickly this summer has gone by, and how I need to continue making the most of my time here. It is truly amazing how much I have been able to see in such a short time. For now, I am on the train home now and am looking forward to resting after walking and riding my bike all throughout Geneva and even crossing the border into France by bike on one trip. I can’t wait to see what new adventurers next week brings.
