Stewing in Sickness and Food
Every inhabitant in my home this week is fighting a losing battle with sickness. After Argentinian independence day at the beginning of the week, we quickly spiraled into the depths of sickness. It got to the point where we knew something was a little too funky to just be a common cold. As a result, I have not been to work for the week because I don’t want to infect anyone at the office, but with the trial still suspended, there doesn’t seem to be much to do at the moment.
In the meantime, we’ve been having a rather magical time spending immense amounts of time together. Being stuck inside, we’ve decided the best way to spend our time is to constantly cook. I’ve consumed what I can only describe as some of the best french food in my life thanks to my roommates. Xavier has made crepes almost every day this week, and we've already begun to show signs of gluttony. Audrey has made us ratatouille several times this week in an effort to get us to consume the much needed vegetables that we haven’t been getting otherwise. After a very contentious cook-off, I am officially in charge of making the soup. We have very wonderful symbiotic relationships going on, but I think we will all be glad when we are finally able to venture out without worrying about spreading anything.
Before we fell sick, we went to our friend's dance show which was so beautiful but was also whiplash at its finest. The first performance was children aged 3-4 dancing with butterfly wings on, and the next was a group of adults dancing a very saucy hip hop number. It was an impeccable selection of music and dance styles, and something I fear I may never experience again.
In other news, I had plenty of time to finally sit down and cure my mate. It looks stunning now, and I’m so excited to consume irresponsible amounts of yerba mate now. Despite the illness, these small joys and moments of creativity have made this week surprisingly delightful.
