Advocacy Grounded in Community
A Community Lawyering Practice in Hampton Roads
At the Community Law Clinic, students represent Hampton Roads clients facing housing, consumer, family law, and criminal records-sealing issues. Students also collaborate closely with local groups to develop education materials and presentations responsive to goals identified by the community.
Types of Cases We Accept
To best meet the significant demand for civil legal assistance in our community, the Clinic prioritizes direct applications from Hampton Roads tenants seeking to protect their housing rights. For other civil legal matters, cases are accepted through referrals from partner organizations. For eligible individuals who cannot otherwise afford an attorney, the Clinic provides free legal advice and representation in the following areas:
- Eviction/Unlawful Detainer Cases
- Section 8/Housing Authority Termination Hearings
- Conditions Issues
- Expungement of Qualifying Evictions
- General Housing Issues
