Education Law

LAW 362-01 Education Law 3 credits
The course is designed to be a survey of the many issues relevant to Education Law. Students will be exposed to the meaningful constitutional, statutory, and judicial authorities that shape basic education law doctrine. The course will encourage students to develop practical skills and professional judgment that will enable them to apply the legal doctrine to situations presented to them by persons trusting in their counsel. Further, students will be given the opportunity to examine and reexamine the fundamental political and philosophic assumptions underlying education law. Some of the interesting and thought provoking areas to be covered include the Pledge of Allegiance, school prayer and other church and state issues, home schooling, compulsory education, drug testing, affirmative action, inadequate and inequitable school funding, teacher and student rights and responsibilities, and students with educational disabilities.
