I am a rising 2L interning with Open Development Cambodia (ODC). ODC is a non-governmental organization headquartered in Phnom Penh that is dedicated to the “open data” movement. ODC provides the public with accurate statistics and information on Cambodia’s economic and social development. The publication of this data promotes transparency and enables sustainable growth. I will be researching foreign direct investment (FDI) in Cambodia with a specific focus on technology investments. I will examine Cambodia’s data governance and privacy policies in order to assess the impact that these rules have on FDI in the country. Comparing Cambodia’s policies with the rest of ASEAN and a few other countries in east Asia will help to identify areas where Cambodia is excelling and areas where Cambodia can improve.
