Guest Panel: Professors Jacob Goodson Chrystie Swiney

On January 27, 2010, Professors Jacob Goodson and Chrystie Swiney participated in a panel presentation titled “The Law of War: Jewish and Islamic Perspectives.” Professor Goodson, currently a Visiting Professor of Religious Ethics at the College of William & Mary, offered an overview of the theory of war in the Jewish tradition, highlighting the way particular Jewish philosophers approach questions of killing and war.  Professor Swiney, currently a Visiting Instructor in William and Mary’s Religious Studies Department, explained the just war theory under Islamic law and focused on its multiple, eclectic and ever-evolving nature.  The presentation was moderated by the law school’s Professor Scott Dodson.
