THE TRIAL AND EXECUTION OF SADDAM HUSSEIN
On October 22, 2009 Professor Michael Newton gave a presentation
entitled "The Trial and Execution of Saddam 
Hussein." Professor
Michael Newton of Vanderbilt Law School was one of two American lawyers
leading a team of international law experts who prepared the judges and
prosecutors of the court that tried Saddam Hussein. Professor Newton
and his colleagues addressed issues that included whether to apply the
death penalty, which crimes could be prosecuted, and the challenge of
maintaining the integrity and fairness of the trial amidst military and
political pressure.
